Trunk or Treat Returns: Where Creativity Meets Community
On Oct. 29, 2026, MLEC hosted its annual Trunk or Treat event during lunch. The event allowed students to catch a glimpse of each club through decorations and festivities that were displayed on each trunk. For example, the Hispanic Heritage club decorated its car with decorations symbolizing the holiday, El Día de Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday that honors deceased loved ones.
“I think the students liked our decorations once they recognized our club, Mu Alpha Theta, by the very long math equation on the trunk. Even teachers walked by and commented on the design by making little jokes. I wouldn’t say I really connected with math while decorating the trunk, but I did learn that you can use hexadecimal numbers in certain equations when coming up with the banner,” said junior Amaya Hollerman
As students walked from car to car, experiencing new and exciting Halloween decorations at each trunk, they received handfuls of candy. Students involved also engaged in several activities such as face painting, live music, and photo opportunities with Halloween cutouts.
For each club to be able to participate, club leadership had its members donate Halloween decorations that fit their theme by posting links through Band. Club members were awarded community service hours for donating.
“Seeing all the students get excited about representing their club was definitely my favorite part of the event. The closer it got to lunchtime, the more I saw people walking to each other’s trunks, giving compliments, and genuinely laughing together. It was just really nice to see.”
“I feel like our school is very academically focused, but little events like Trunk or Treat really bring students together. Like even for myself, I talked to a lot of people I never interacted with before at Trunk or Treat. These events truly lighten the school environment and connect students in a fun way,” added Hollerman.
Another highlight of this year’s Trunk or Treat event was Key Club’s pirate-themed ball toss game, where students tossed balls into cardboard pirate ships that acted as targets. Other clubs incorporated themes into the candy and treats they distributed, such as HOSA’s “blood bags” that were filled with fruit punch and FCCLA’s pudding cups.
“Walking through all of the different trunks and getting all of the candy was my favorite part of the event. Each trunk was different, and I loved how creative each club got with their treats as well, such as the FCCLA pudding cups or the HOSA blood bags. Both HOSA and FCCLA’s trunks stood out to me the most because of FCCLA’s Costco decor and HOSA’s skeletons and cobwebs. They were both the most creative, in my opinion.”
“Despite the atmosphere being a bit chaotic, I would attend another trunk or treat in the future because it was very fun. My friends and I attended the event together so it wasn’t too overwhelming,” said sophomore Paige Styles.
Beyond the decorations and festivities, Trunk or Treat gave participants the opportunity to interact with new students and explore different clubs, while introducing the fall season.
