Avengers: Endgame Encore: The Rerelease of Marvel’s Greatest Movie
On September 25th, Marvel Studios rereleased their blockbuster movie, Avengers: Endgame, back to theaters worldwide.
The purpose of this rerelease is to build hype and anticipation for their upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres December 18th, 2026. The proper name for this release is Avengers: Endgame Encore, for two reasons. One is to celebrate the greatness of the movie, as it is the second highest-grossing movie of all time, earning about 2.8 billion dollars, only behind Avatar, which earned about 2.9 billion.
Another reason, which is the main reason as to why many fans are going to see the movie, is because of the extra scenes that are added in the movie, which is similar to an encore musicians give after a performance.
In total, there are four extra scenes added, which have a total run time of about four minutes. These scenes tie directly into Avengers: Doomsday, basically becoming teasers for the movie. These teasers will give insight into future events in Doomsday, like plot points and character interactions, but most importantly, build hype around the movie as a whole.
“I feel like it makes sense if they want more attention to be drawn to the upcoming Doomsday movie because it gives people a refresher of what happened last time, and we can pick up where we left off. And for the new scenes, I feel like they won’t be that important because they won’t add much information, but it’ll be cool to see the new theories about them on TikTok,” said senior Aiden Milhomme-Russel.
These teasers also allow for theory making. Ever since the main villain of the movie, Dr. Doom, has been revealed to be played by Robert Downey Jr., the actor of Iron Man, fans have been speculating about what this means. Some think that Dr. Doom is a multiversal variant of the Iron Man we know, while others think Dr. Doom is the same Iron Man that we know, just one that went on a darker path.
Theories have also been crafted since the first four teasers that were shown at the end of the movie Avatar: Fire and Ash. These trailers consisted of Steve Rogers (Captain America), Thor, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the Wakandans, giving a diverse set of characters. Adding this to the post-credit scene of the Thunderbolts, which was filmed on the set of Doomsday, many theorists have enough information to predict the plot of the movie.
Besides appealing to the current fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the rerelease of Avengers: Endgame can allow Marvel to capture people who weren’t as tuned in to the movies. If they are successful in doing so, these new fans could possibly be Marvel fans, watching many movies and fully catching up before Doomsday’s release in December.
Something similar has already happened before. When the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday got posted July 20th, many people, fans and non-fans, claimed to start a marathon of all Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to prepare for Doomsday.
“The only Marvel movie I ever watched was Avengers: Infinity War, and it was pretty good, so I’ll probably watch Avengers: Endgame when it comes back out. And if I really get into it, I’ll probably watch Avengers: Doomsday and other Marvel movies too,” said sophomore Shiloh Garcia.
Avengers: Endgame Encore is statistically Marvel’s best movie, and one of the best movies to ever hit the big screen. So rereleasing it will only increase its popularity. And ultimately, it is a great way to promote their future big hit, Avengers: Doomsday.
