President Donald Trump Introduces Board of Peace Initiative

“While it is great that Trump is being more proactive about helping those affected by war, I don’t think one person should head someone like this and especially not someone with a background like him,” sophomore Kevin Ceballos.
Supporters of the Board of Peace argue that existing international organizations are often slow and ineffective. Trump has criticized groups like the United Nations, saying that they fail to take strong action with issues. Many supporters also point out the influential figures now involved in the board, such as Jared Kushner, Marco Rubio, Tony Blair, and Steve Witkoff and other political leaders, saying that their participation shows that experienced leaders are helping guide this new initiative.
However, this initiative has also faced criticism. One major concern is its leadership structure. Critics argue that having one person in charge gives the board too much centralized power. Others worry that politics or money could affect the decisions made.
Another issue pointed out is the board’s level of authority. The Board of Peace does not have legal power under international law and can’t enforce decisions the way recognized global institutions can. So its influence heavily depends on whether or not countries choose to cooperate with it.
“I don’t think the Board of Peace would work that well. It might be hard to get some countries in there. I know they have some now but even so I’m not sure if this is a good plan, even if they mean well. It would need a stronger setup,” said sophomore Amy Sanchez.
The Board of Peace is still new and untested, and how much impact it will have remains to be seen yet. Some believe it could offer a new approach to global conflicts, while others think it will be limited without wider support. What is clear is that President Trump’s initiative has sparked a lot of debate and attention, and now many are watching closely to see if it can turn ideas into real action.
