Bad Bunny Announced for the Super Bowl

By Lucia Rodriguez

Latin artist Bad Bunny has been set to headline the Super Bowl in 2026. The NFL announced on September 29th that the superstar would be headlining after months of speculation from the media.

The massively successful performance of Super Bowl 2025 performer, Kendrick Lamar, made a lasting impact in Super Bowl halftime history. Lamar’s show was the most viewed Super Bowl performance in 2025, with over 133.5 million viewers tuning in to see the rapper. Many are wondering how Bad Bunny will steal the spotlight this upcoming game day.

Now, after ending his historic Puerto Rican residency, where over half a million people went to see the singer in homage to his culture, his island, and his heritage, it’s safe to say that the Latin superstar is reaching an all-time high in his career. Over the past few years, the Puerto Rican legend has been climbing the ranks in Billboard hits, most-streamed albums, and reggaeton history, solidifying himself as a legend in the making.

With the success of his albums “Un Verano Sin Ti” and his most recent release “Debir Tirar Mas Fotos,” he shares the story and spirit of himself and the Puerto Rican people. His performances have brought prosperity to the Puerto Rican economy and share a story of strength, unity, perseverance, and love.

“I loved ‘Un Verano Sin Ti,’ that was an album that I’ll never forget. Like that was my album, summer of 2022. But ‘Debir Tirar Mas Fotos’ was something that I truly connected to. I’m glad he made that album. It felt sentimental to me, and I’m glad he finally gets to perform at the Super Bowl next year,” said junior Fabio Fernandez.

In an Instagram post announcing the event, Bad Bunny sported a straw hat as a reference to mid-century Puerto Rican farmers. It’s an item he continuously wears in his shows in Puerto Rico. The post shows him sitting on a goal post as a song from “Debir Tirar Mas Fotos” plays in the background. The song honors the history of the Puerto Rican people and embraces the origins and struggles of immigrants, becoming an anthem to fans.

He captioned the post by writing, ”It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

“I got really excited when he posted. I started getting into him when I first started to listen to Rauw Alejandro. I love him and this past album. Especially the songs ‘EoO’ and ‘La Mundaza,’” said junior Jacqueline Aponte.

Bad Bunny’s music and talent transcend his own fanbase. Starting as a small artist from humble beginnings and now being one of the biggest stars to come out of the 21st century, he has brought his success back to where it all started. On the island, he loves most to pay homage to his people.

This performance is not only a stride in Bad Bunny’s career but a major achievement for the Latin community, as he is a symbol of pride, talent, and a reminder to never forget where you come from.

Bad Bunny and his anticipated performance are a light in the dark times that many immigrants and Latinos are facing. It is a reminder to embrace our culture, our heritage, and our community because that’s what makes us so vibrant, so rich, and so timeless. That our culture should not be just a memory but the lived moments we get to have with the ones we love most.
