Burdened Wings

Rachel Vasco, Class of 2027 Junior

“This piece reflects the exhaustion that comes with constant struggle. The angel, sculpted in stone and resembling myself, weeps as she clings to her sword. Once a symbol of strength, the weapon has become too heavy to lift, just as her wings — once meant for flight — weigh her down. She represents the moment when perseverance feels impossible, when even warriors grow weary. Yet by holding the sword, even in defeat, she shows that there is still dignity in endurance, and even in sorrow there is resilience.”
