Miami-Dade County Schools Superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, announced on Facebook that he will give back to students by using the $10,000 he earned as national Superintendent of the year, in addition to his own personal impute of $10,000, to \u201chonor [ten] students whose paths have been both difficult but also inspirational\u201d with college scholarships.<\/p>\n

The ten students, who will each receive $2,000, are part of Project Up-Start, a project established in 1992 that helps homeless students get the supplies and tools they need throughout the year; they are also students that have graduated at the top of their class.<\/p>\n

Students part of Project Up-Start are allowed to go to a store administrated by the organization located in the Miami Dade County School Administration building to shop at no cost.<\/p>\n

Carvalho gave out the scholarships today and said the gesture was significant for him because there was a time period when he was homeless.<\/p>\n
