Anticipation Grows as Super Bowl LX Begins
The Super Bowl is one of the most watched and celebrated events of the year, bringing together sports and music in a way that only a few events can compare to. Super Bowl LX is taking place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will face off in one of the most anticipated games, with fans from all around the world coming together to watch and celebrate.
Both teams are stepping onto the field with something to prove and have completed the regular season with 14-3, but both have very different stories.
The New England Patriots turned around a bad record of 3-14 in the 2024 season with the help of quarterback Drake Maye. He leads the NFL in passer rating, which shows his strong accuracy and playmaking ability.
New England relies on their passing and rushing. and while Maye has been able to take the pressure from defense, the Patriots’ ability to have a controlled tempo has been a key factor in their success. The defense has also been strong at stopping potential big plays and critical stops, making them hard to score against.
“They’re the underdogs in this case. After Tom Brady left the Pats, they were sucky. Drake Maye is like their light at the end of the tunnel,” said senior Camila Garcia.
Alternatively, the Seattle Seahawks are entering the game with a defensive line that has allowed the least amount of points scored in the regular season. They also rank near the top for sacks, meaning Drake Maye will face challenges trying to protect the ball.
Sam Darnold leads the offensive line and has thrown over 4,000 yards, which has helped the Seahawks score at a high rate. Another key player is wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has earned AP Offensive Player of the Year for his ability to stretch defenses and create opportunities for his teammates. The contrast between the teams calls for an exciting and close game where people will be stressing over who the winner will be.
“I think the Seahawks will win, with Sam Darnold standing out throughout the game,” said sophomore Dwayne Davis, while sophomore Barrington Irving said, “The Seahawks are likely to win, but Drake Maye is definitely a strong player on the other team.”
While the championship game is the main attraction, the Super Bowl has grown to be more than just football. Pregame performances are a way for people to build up their excitement about the game and to set the tone for the night. The year’s lineup consists of varying artists from different genres and backgrounds.
The first artists to be performing will be the punk rock band Green Day bringing everyone’s excitement levels up before the game. Following them will be the National Anthem sung by Charlie Puth, who is known for his strong vocals and trending pop hits.
Brandi Carlile will be performing America the Beautiful and Coco Jones will sing Lift Every Voice and Sing. All of these showcases are a way to reflect the diversity of American music and create a sense of unity while leading into the game.
One of the most awaited moments of the night will be the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, headlined by global superstar Bad Bunny. Known for his Latin trap, reggaeton, and pop music, Bad Bunny has become one of the most influential musicians. His halftime performance is expected to be a huge cultural highlight, with his lively set that will celebrate both his music and his heritage.
“I think Bad Bunny is going to make everyone entertained when watching halftime and even people that don’t watch football will be watching the game,” said sophomore Elina Gendelman.
As Super Bowl LX begins, the event promises more than just a championship game. With a highly anticipated matchup on the field, and major music performances throughout the evening, the Super Bowl continues to have something for everyone to enjoy.
