Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Review

By Marlon Bojorge

In anticipation of the third season of the global hit Jujutsu Kaisen, the franchise’s second movie has hit theaters. It was released in Japan on November 7, 2025 and in North American theaters on December 5, 2025.  It serves as a recap of the second season of the anime with improved animation sequences and a preview to the first two episodes of the third season.

It has been received positively by fans with —as of writing this— a 64% Tomatometer and a 80% Popcorn meter on RottenTomatoes. Having seen the movie I can confidently say that it’s a movie for fans and not much else.

Unlike its predecessor, Jujutsu Kaizen 0: The Movie which was a prequel, you cannot watch this movie without being caught up on the anime. Even with the recap portion of season two, it is not sufficient for a new viewer who will find themselves confused. Even so the target audience of dedicated fans have found themselves immensely enjoying the movie.

“I watched season two while it was coming out and I was impressed by the animation then even with the controversy going on at the time, so seeing the already great animation made even better and seeing it on the big screen made buying the ticket worth it. And then there were the new fights. Those were spectacular. I’m really hyped for season 3,” said senior Alex Gonzalez Lopez.

I agree, especially about the new fights. Two of the most memorable came in the later half of the movie with Yuta vs Itadori and Choso vs Naoya. In both cases the fight choreography was stunning along with being paired with fluid animation.

Additionally, it’s interesting to see more of Itadori’s inner turmoil surrounding the Shibuya incident. It culminates near the end of the movie where Yuji, unconfident about his control over Sukuna, has Yuta promise him to kill him if Sukuna takes over his body.

However, the movie has criticisms. Some complained about the actual format of the movie. Others had smaller complaints, such as the rules of the Culling Games finish  flashing on the screen too quickly for anybody to read.

“I’m tired of anime movies like the new JJK one. It’s always a recap about the last season and then like 2 episodes of the new season. They did that with DanDaDan earlier this year, and I hated it then. If I’m going to theaters, I don’t want something I already watched or am gonna see in a few months on Crunchyroll as an episode. I want purely new and unique content. Think of the Demon Slayer movies,” said senior Cesar Ibarr-Martinez.

I would rate the movie as an 8/10. It’s a great, enjoyable movie for fans, but it doesn’t introduce anything substantial, and viewers won’t miss anything if you don’t watch it, as the content will be released for free on a later date.
