Students Make Jingle Jog 2025 A Hit

By Robert Rojas

This Thursday, MLEC hosted its annual Jingle Jog. Excitement built up throughout the day, which came just shy of a week before students go on winter break. Students of all grades could have signed up to run during lunch, and non-athletic participants could have enjoyed the  brand new trunk parade.

The Holiday Sparkle and Treat, otherwise known as the trunk parade, began during lunch and garnered a huge number of students. This event is new to Jingle Jog and was introduced during Halloween week at the Den, as part of the Trunk or Treat celebration. Clubs get a participant’s car trunk and decorate it nicely then hand out candy to students.

During the Jingle Jog, there was even artificial snow falling, covering the track and some of the trunks. Most of the students’ favorite part was receiving candy from the clubs and spending time at school with friends.

“I loved getting food and snacks from the trunks, I think they were decorated really nice and I wished that more people had signed up to run since the wind is super refreshing,” remarked junior Albert Reyes.

Many clubs at MLEC grouped together to make some amazing trunk decorations for this holiday season. All of them were competing for students’ vote to win a grand prize of $500 for their club to host future activities or buy resources.

One of the more exciting parts of Jingle Jog is getting to compete in a race around the school campus for a medal and bragging rights after the event. This year the first place winner was sophomore Brandon Clark with a record time of 5 minutes and 51 seconds.

“I think this year was very fun and I am glad I was able to win this year after finishing third place last year,” said Brandon.

Other students also enjoyed the Jingle Jog, and are already building excitement for next year’s run. “This was the 3rd Jingle Jog I’ve gone to, and I love the fact that I can run and show off athletic skills. I’d like to see more people running, and I think that next year I’ll for sure win. I got 4th place this time,” said junior Jorge Sasiga.

All students who participated during the Jingle Jog and the Holiday Sparkle and Treat had a great time talking to friends, jogging and running, and going around voting for the best dressed trunk. Next year’s Jingle Jog participants have big shoes to fill and fast times to beat.
